Univsersity Projects

 

 The first year introduced me to the basics of Media Production, to allow broad understanding of all medias. Ranging from Photograpghy, New Media, Video Production and theory modules, which layed down the grounds of Film and TV history. Throughout the year, I created short films ranging from 1minute – 5minutes, which allowed me to develop my creative thought proccess, as well as understanding the tecnhical aspects of editing, and camerawork.

The second year pushed me to pick up the pace, never quite allowing us to take our foot off the gas. This was the year which I found my particular interest, and made a concious effort to study outside the course to enhance my knowledge. It was also the year I changed my course title to BA (hons) Film and Video as it offered more practical modules, which was the avenue I wanted to focus on.

I was introduced to Film Producing in this year, which I believe to date, is what has developed my interest in the role, as well as considering other job prospects and avenues, which I did not consider before. Our lecturer was Dewi Griffiths, who is a Film Producer himself, and runs a production company. Being taught by proffessional, within the Industry, provided us with realistic perspective of what to expect, and what is to be expected from us as new filmakers. Alongside this course was Documentary film-making, and Fiction  film-making. As a group, we were expected to produce a 10minute film for each module, developing the idea, through to the final finishes of the film. This is where the challenges began for the year, and where I discovered my skills, and areas which I needed to develop further.

 The Modern Warrior (Documentary 2nd year)

 We went on on location to observe the cage fighters daily training routine at his local boxing club. We then travelled to his home, interviwed him, and his manager, which allowed us to try and capture an alternative side of his character when not in training mode.

Written, produced and edited by myself, This film follows a young teenager who struggles to adapt to ‘adulthood’ and the complexities which her life now presents her with, as her father unexpectedly walks out of her life, which propels her between the realms of her imagination and the grim reality that now faces her.   

The production was filmed around Cardiff including such location as; Penarth Beach, Roath Park, Persimmon Show House, and we travelled to Carmarthen for the castle sequence.
